Today I learnt that this little fellow is a Limpkin … it has a few other names too – including the “crying bird” – he did sound a little sad but that was perhaps because he had an injury on his leg. The bad one was tucked up under him. But I don’t think it was a problem – he flew in and landed just fine. He DID however, have a very slight limp. When I got home I googled the bird and apparently its name derives from the fact they look like they are “limping” when they walk! Apparently he’s usually with a “friend” – he really wasn’t at all bothered by us getting right up into his face which really was rather amazing. So today he was “flying solo” ! Taken at the Celery Fields.
Well it’s the reflection of the Christmas table at my daughter-in-law’s parents home on Daniel Island just north of Charleston. Sadly I don’t think there was one night when we ALL sat down for a meal – not even on Christmas day as we were all sick at various times – chicken noodle soup was pretty popular – we had crackers (as in the pulling kind as well as the eating kind!) and Santa came of course.
